...there is one other possible contender for the thrown of "The worlds largest freshwater species", which in fact is also a Thai resident! (along with other parts of South-East Asia). Although there are not any recently recorded specimens, The Giant Freshwater Stingray seen above, is widely accepted to reach weights in excess of 1300LB, and some of the worlds most knowledgeable scientists believe that this species will ultimately prove itself to be the king of Freshwater Giants, although researchers are still trying to establish this fact.
